Wings for Success’ goal is to enhance the financial independence and stability of women. Wings strives to instill the confidence women in transition need in order to obtain and sustain employment. Whether through clothing appointments, life skills workshops, or personalized guidance from carefully selected and trained volunteers, Wings’ programs are designed to bolster self-esteem and teach a positive outlook, qualities that are critical for success in life.

  2015 year-end Client Demographics: 

  • Target Population: Economically disadvantaged women in Southeastern Pennsylvania
  • Counties Served: 73% Chester, 13% Delaware, 11% Montgomery, 2% Philadelphia, 1% New Castle (DE), 
  • Ethnic breakdown: 40% Caucasian, 38% African-American, 19% Hispanic, 3% other
  • Age range served:  16 to 65 years old 
  • Income: 59% earn < $10,000 annual income
  • Families impacted: 73% of clients have children, indirectly 1,098 children benefited through efforts to help their mothers.

  Wings is the only program of its kind in Chester County.

  Wings served over 650 clients in 2015, and over 9.200 since it’s founding 19 years ago in 1997.  Additionally, over 200 individuals participated in our workshops this year.

  Clients can contact us directly or may be referred through a network of  over 50 social service agencies such as homeless shelters, crime victim centers, domestic abuse shelters, drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities, various TANF training programs, and other for-profit and non-profit programs serving unemployed and/or underemployed individuals.

  On a typical visit, a client receives a work-appropriate wardrobe which includes key pieces of clothing to be mixed and matched, including undergarments, shoes, handbags, accessories and seasonal outerwear (as inventory allows). 

  A conservative estimate of the value of clothing provided to clients last year is more than $600,000.

  Sustain strong client self-confidence and satisfaction scores, 97% and 99% respectively.

  Operating with only three employees, Wings’ board members and a pool of 80 volunteers together contributed over 10,000 hours in 2015 in all areas of organizational operation.
